Авторы статьи показывают становление Антона де Кома в качестве лидера национально-освободительного движения Суринама. Свою работу он строил на принципах сплочения суринамского народа для борьбы с колонизаторами, а его трагическая гибель в нацистском концлагере способствовала созданию образа национального героя. Антона де Кома принято считать одним из создателей современного Суринама.

The authors of the article, using extensive biographical material, show the formation of Anton de Kom as the leader of the national-liberation movement of Suriname. In his political struggle, Anton de Kom was guided by the principles of uniting the Surinamese people in the fight against the colonialists, and his tragic death in a Nazi concentration camp contributed to the creation of the image of a national hero of the country. Anton de Kom is considered to be one of the creators of modern Suriname.
