Abstract
Public and state institutions are involved in identity formation, which ensures the uniqueness and integrity of a particular community. In complex, heterogeneous, and therefore potentially conflicting societies, the problem of identity is felt especially acutely. The article presents an analysis of the influence of the religious factor on the mechanisms of constructing social reality in North Macedonia, and tendencies in the process of forming a civic identity are observed.
