Abstract
The article analyzes the operational situation in the middle of summer 1942, the role and importance of the Battle of Stalingrad in the overall context of the war, the peculiarities of the initial period of the Battle of Stalingrad, the severity of the first German storm of Stalingrad, the outcome of which largely depended on the fate of the city.
