China’s military strategy in the South China Sea Island air bases and force projection

Abstract
Military power projection is a powerful component of the PRC’s comprehensive strategy to assert national sovereignty in the South China Sea.
Dredging and equipping reefs with dual-use infrastructure allows China to significantly expand its monitoring, reconnaissance and response capabilities to potential threats in the South China Sea.
